The test case is seen in the way verses 13 and following are presented as a conclusion statement for the foundation of verses 1-12, including our command to hope. Can God Command Hope?

Last time on Teaching Thursdays, we worked our way through the first twelve verses in 1 Peter chapter 1. When we began our study, the clear emphasis was the connection between God’s sovereignty in salvation and suffering. In a word, Peter developed reasons for Christian hope. Now comes the command from God for us: Hope!
